Lehmann’s Maytag Home Appliance Center of Bellingham is announcing plans to move to a larger location at 2001 James St. – the former site of United Auto Electric. The tentative opening date is Dec. 1 with a grand opening planned Jan. 21.
The new site has 7,200 square feet – 44 percent more than the Iowa Street location where Lehmann’s has been since 1997.
“It also offers more parking and much better visibility since it’s at the intersection of James, State and Iowa streets and across from Hardware Sales,” said Terry Lehmann, the third-generation owner.
Lehmann acquired the appliance business from his father Don in 1987. His grandfather, Ed Lehmann, launched it in 1929 – shortly after the start of the Great Depression – by selling wringer washers door to door in Lynden.
Lehmann’s, a Maytag dealer since its founding, now offers washers, dryers, ranges, dishwashers, refrigerators, microwaves and coin-operated laundry equipment for rental units. It also is the rare appliance dealer with a complete service and parts department.
Lehmann’s has survived for 80 years despite competition from many big-box retailers. Lehmann said customers trust the store and come back for many years due to its quality products, excellent service and knowledgeable employees. Its success and reputation resulted in the Bellingham/Whatcom Chamber of Commerce naming Lehmann’s its Small Business of the Year in 2006.
Hours at the new location will be 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. For more information, call (360) 733-7722.
