During the afternoon hours on Wednesday, Nov. 4, crews will activate the new traffic signal at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Chestnut Street in downtown Bellingham. Crews will spend Wednesday morning finishing the installation of the new electronics gear, signal heads and wiring. Once the remaining gear is installed and tested, crews will activate the traffic signal.
Motorists and pedestrians should use extreme caution while traveling in this area as an active traffic signal will be a significant change to those used to the current stop sign control. All directions will be notified of the new signal with advanced warning signs stating the traffic revision.
