The Rotary Club of Bellingham recently presented cash awards to two nonprofits in Whatcom Country, based on need and value to the community.

Animals as Natural Therapy was awarded $500 for their group, which empowers individuals of all ages and victims of addiction and domestic violence through relationships developed with animal partners. The funds will be used to help support three students from Squalicum High School to each continue a new ten-week session.

The Mount Baker Youth Symphony received $1000 for their programs, which provide a stimulating environment for talented and gifted young musicians. The students are encouraged and challenged to develop to their fullest potential. The funds will be used to partially fund outreach school events and concert venue.
