Whatcom Folk School, an adult and family education school in Bellingham, celebrates its one year anniversary this summer and also welcomes a new director.
The school announced Josh Heard will take over the position from founder Cindi Landreth, who plans to continue as president of the school’s board of directors.
Heard moved in Bellingham in 2000 to study at Western Washington Univerity—earning a bachelor’s in environmental geology. He recently received his master’s in glacial geology at Portland State University.
Whatcom Folk School’s mission is “to offer access and opportunities to learn practical skills and knowledge that promotes greater sustainability and resilience in Whatcom County for the individual, the family, and the community,” according to its website. In its first year, the school offered more than 300 classes taught by more than 100 local instructors.
