On May 16, Aiki Homes will give a free tour to showcase the Holcomb Home, one of the company’s projects which was recently awarded honors in the 2010 Built Green Western Washington Custom Home category. The home is located at 1123 17th St. in Fairhaven.

The tour will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will highlight the home’s custom green features, such as the indoor rainwater harvesting, solar energy, and hydronic radiant heating systems.

The project was a home designed for safety, energy efficiency and sustainability. It and other entries from across western Washington were judged on energy testing, materials used, impact on the environment and amount of construction waste generated. LEED Platinum Certification is pending for the home. If granted, it would make it the first in Whatcom County.

The Built Green program is a non-profit building program of the Building Industry Association of Whatcom County in partnership with other Washington state agencies. The program seeks to promote environmentally friendly building.
