Alcoa Intalco Works is teaming up with the Whatcom County Toys for Tots campaign this holiday season. The Ferndale-based aluminum smelter is linking a holiday safety program aimed at reducing workplace hazards during this high risk period with Toys for Tots, donating $5 for every hazard identified.

Plant Manager Mike Rousseau said a target of 2,000 hazards, which equates to potentially $10,000 for Toys for Tots, has been set.

“This is a great way for us to hone our safety focus while contributing to a terrific community cause,” Rousseau said in a release.

Intalco employees are planning a shopping day at Bellingham toy store, Yeager’s, which has offered a 25 percent discount on toys purchased for the campaign on Dec. 8.
