Appliance Depot board elects new president

The Bellingham Business Journal

Bernice Vonnegut was recently elected president of the board of directors of Appliance Depot, a nonprofit reuse and job training organization in Bellingham that has saved more than 4,000 discarded appliances for reuse and provided work experience for more than 200 trainees since opening in 2005.

Vonnegut is a retired senior human resources professional who has worked with the Northwest Workforce Development Council, Shoreline Community College and Bellingham Technical College.

Vonnegut succeeds Hudson Dodd, who last year introduced the appliance races down Holly Street to promote the reuse efforts of Appliance Depot.

Other officers were also chosen. Mel Monkelis was elected as vice president, Barbara Leveque as secretary, and Kurt Gisclair as treasurer.

New board members elected at the organization’s annual meeting were: April Claxton, Carl Johnston, Dallas Betz and Michael Lilliquist.
