Architecture group awards two student scholarships

The Northwest Washington Chapter of the American Institute of Architects has recognized two local students of architecture with scholarships.

Glen Marquardt, a 2010 graduate of Bellingham’s Sehome High School, is a student at the University of California, Berkeley, where he is pursuing a minor in city and regional planning and sustainable design, as well as a master’s degree in architecture.

Kyle Jones, from Anacortes, is entering his junior year at the University of Idaho.

Both students will receive $1,000 to support their studies in Architecture.

The AIA Northwest Washington Scholarship Fund is open to any student from Whatcom, Skagit, Island or San Juan counties, who is entering their junior year or above at any accredited school of architecture. Applications are available from the chapter, which can be reached by phone at 360-671-9555. The annual deadline for applications is July 1.

The NWAIA Scholarship Fund is supported by an endowment created from private donations.  The interest from this endowment funds the ccholarships, along with donations and grants.  Donations to the scholarship fund are tax deductible, and can be made by contacting the chapter.
