Art Grants help two Mount Baker Theatre productions

The Western States Arts Federation has awarded Mount Baker Theatre two TourWest grants, together totaling $4,250, to support performances of “The Great Mountain” and Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew,” along with other community outreach activities.

Funding for these grants is from WESTAF, National Endowment for the Arts and the Washington State Arts Commission.

“The Great Mountain”

On Oct. 18, Red Sky Performance will perform “The Great Mountain” at Mount Baker Theatre for two school audiences at 10 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.

That afternoon, Red Sky Performance will also conduct a participatory workshop at a local elementary school.

“The Taming of the Shrew”

Aquila Theatre will perform a full-length production of Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” at Mount Baker Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on April 10, 2013.

At 10 a.m. on the same day, Aquila Theatre will perform at 55-minute “guided tour” education version of the play. On April 9, Aquila Theatre will conduct master classes for high school and college students.
