Artisans Northwest Arts, Crafts and Eats, a venue for local artists and small-batch food producers, opened June 2 at 1215 Cornwall Ave. downtown. The 3,000-square-foot store offers rentable display cases and wall space for local pottery, glasswork, fabric, art and furniture. A loft will also be available for holding seminars and classes.
Owner Rick Alcantara said his vision for the store is a central place to find locally hand-crafted gifts, as well as provide a platform to showcase regional artists.
“We have a lot of local, talented artists in Bellingham that I want to help make a name for themselves,” Alcantara said.
The store is Alcantara’s first foray into owning a business in Bellingham. After working for the Bellingham Farmer’s Market for five years, he was ready to do something on his own, he said.
Although the store has been open for a month, its grand opening will be held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., July 1, during the Downtown Art Walk. Artists will be present to answer questions about their work displayed in the store; live music and appetizers will be provided.
