The Bellingham Business Journal

Borders and Son Quality Roofing owner Audrey Borders was recently elected to the position of state treasurer for the Building Industry Association of Washington (BIAW), the powerful advocacy and professional organization for the state’s construction industry.

As a state officer, Borders will represent the 10,000 plus members of the BIAW in its charitable, educational, professional service, and legislative affairs activities. The position will also place Borders in line to become the BIAW president in 2013.

Borders was the first woman to serve as president of the local Building Industry Association of Whatcom County (BIAWC) — a position she served in twice — she also served on the BIAWC board of directors for more than a decade, and has twice been honored as the local association’s builder of the year.

Aside from her personal achievements as the owner of a construction business for more than three decades, Borders is a mother, grandmother and a cancer survivor. She has also received a number of professional and community recognitions including serving as the former president of Whatcom Women in Business and receiving two nominations for Professional Woman of the year. She presently sits on the board of directors of the Whatcom County Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the City of Bellingham Public Works Advisory Committee.

Borders is also a founding member and advisory board member of the Whatcom County Construction Careers Academy, which offers all public high school students in Whatcom County a fully accredited elective class in basic construction elements.
