Ballet Bellingham, a new dance studio, is opening at the beginning of October at 1405 Fraser St. Suite 103.
Owner Jessica Crook has danced in Bellingham since she was 3 years old and eventually became an instructor at the Nancy Whyte School of Ballet, where she taught for 15 years. The studio closed last summer when Nancy Whyte decided to move to New York City.
“Both of my daughters dance and when Nancy left, we tried other places in town and didn’t find anything that was quite like what we were used to,” Crook said. “So I wanted to open something that is like Nancy Whyte’s.”
The 3,300-square-foot studio has a 1,200-sqaure-foot dance floor and a waiting room where parents can watch their children dance on a closed-circuit monitor. For students, this alleviates the pressure of being watched and for parents it allows them to watch without interrupting the class, Crook said.
Ballet Bellingham will offer ballet classes for any age or ability level, from age 3 on up to advanced dancers. Classes will be held weeknights between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. and also on Saturdays.
