Bellingham’s newest restaurant doesn’t have any seating, but it has a great view and a full menu.
Bay Leaf Mobile Kitchen, a food truck located at the corner of Prospect and Flora streets across from the Whatcom Museum, is open for lunch Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Owner Steve Lohse opened the stand with his wife Amy Struppa-Lohse after an extensive search for a retail location.
“I looked around for a cafe to open and I couldn’t find one I could afford,” Lohse said. “In this economic time we wanted to keep our overhead low. I didn’t want to have to sacrifice the quality of our food just to pay rent.”
The food truck offers traditional soups and sandwiches — some of the more popular items so far have been the Cuban pork sandwich and the tomato basil bisque soup, Lohse said.
“I’ve never been a believer that it takes a white table cloth to serve nice food,” Lohse said. “There’s something very metropolitan about a classy food truck.”
