The Bellingham Albert J. Hamilton Post No. 7 of the American Legion will host an open house and new membership drive beginning at 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, Tuesday, Dec. 31, at 1688 W. Bakerview Road.

Tickets cost $25. They can be purchased at the Post or at www.bellinghamlegion.com (Click on “Events and Activities”).

The event will welcome in the new year and allow nonmembers to learn more about the Legion. Membership is open to veterans and those who have family members who currently serve or have served in the American armed forces.

The Bellingham Post No. 7 is the second largest Legion post in Washington state. The post’s leaders are attempting to reach a goal of having 1,000 members in 2014, in order to meet a challenge set by the American Legion’s National Commander, according to a news release.

The New Year’s Eve event will feature music and dancing, as well as appetizers and a champagne toast at midnight.
