Bellingham attorney, CPA to lead class on estate planning

Katti Esp, an attorney and principal of Wealth Retention Services in Bellingham, and Kevin DeYoung, a CPA with Larson Gross in Bellingham, will teach a two-session class at Whatcom Community College titled “Wills and Estate Planning: An Introduction.”

The class will cover an introduction to wills, revocable living trusts, community property agreements and durable powers of attorney. It will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Feb. 4 and Feb 11. Registration costs $59 (a second family member can attend for $10)

Esp recently became the only attorney in Washington state to receive certification as an estate planning law specialist, according to a news release. She earned the certification by passing a comprehensive examination in estate-planning law, devoting at least one-third of her practice to estate planning for a minimum of five years and receiving recommendations from five colleagues.

Esp has practiced law in Bellingham since 1996, focusing her practice on designing and implementing individualized estate plans and assisting clients with the probate process. Esp holds a Master of Laws degree in taxation and the Accredited Estate Planner designation.
