Bellingham Childcare & Learning Center gets $5K grant

The nonprofit Bellingham Childcare & Learning Center has received a $5,000 grant from the Glaser Foundation to support affordable childcare and other programs for high-risk children and those from low-income families.

The funds will be used to provide early childhood education, nutritious meals and access to services such as the Interfaith Mobile Dental Clinic and other developmental screenings, according to the nonprofit’s directors.

“Research clearly shows the first six years of life are when the groundwork for all future social, emotional and cognitive development is laid,” said Karen Ekdahl, the organization’s executive director, in a press release. “This grant will allow us to provide a stable, nurturing environment to the children in our community who need it most.”

The Bellingham Childcare & Learning Center is dedicated to providing high quality, affordable childcare to families of all income levels, as well as assisting low-income families to become self-sufficient.
