Bellingham City Club to host growth management symposium

”Whose Land Is It? Growth Management and Whatcom County” is the subject of a Jan. 25 panel discussion to be hosted by the Bellingham City Club.

Participants will discuss Growth Management as it impacts all of Whatcom County. Kaleen Cottingham, director of the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office, who worked on the original Growth Management legislation, will present an overview. She will then moderate a panel discussion by Mayor Gary Jensen of Ferndale, Jean Melious, former chair of the Whatcom County Planning Commission and board member of Futurewise, and Jay Irwin, Bellingham land use consultant.

The event will be held at Northwood Hall, 3240 Northwest Avenue, Bellingham. A buffet lunch will be served at 11:50 a.m.; the program starts at 12:20 p.m. and ends at 1:30 p.m. Lunch costs $11 for members and $16 for non-members. The program is open to the public.
