Bellingham roadwork report, Sept. 30 to Oct. 4

The following information is provided by the city of Bellingham’s Public Works Department.

Forest Street by North State Street
Forest Street will be closed to through traffic by the new roundabout. Traffic will be detoured onto Berry St.  Motorists can expect delays during typical working hours, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.Flaggers will direct traffic through the detour and lane closures. Drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes. Ram Construction continues to build a new roundabout. Ivy Street
A portion of Ivy Street adjacent to the roundabout construction will be closed with local access only. Ram Construction continues to build a new roundabout. Flaggers will direct traffic around the closure. Wharf Street
Wharf Street is closed and a detour is in place. Ram Construction continues to build a new roundabout. Flaggers will direct traffic through the detour. State and Maple Streets intersection 
The pedestrian improvements at State and Maple streets are nearing completion. Travelers may experience intermittent, minor delays as crews complete the project. Flaggers will assist vehicles and provide pedestrian access to local businesses as needed. James and Illinois Streets intersection
Motorists can expect minor delays at James and Illinois streets. Traffic will be intermittently reduced to one lane around the intersection to allow crews to pour concrete for the pedestrian improvements. Flaggers will assist travelers through the construction as needed. Bill McDonald Parkway from Ferry Ave to Samish Way
The westbound lane of Bill McDonald Parkway from Ferry Ave to Samish Way will be reduced to 10′ and the speed limit reduced to 10 mph while Faber Construction continue pedestrian improvements on the north side of the parkway. Flaggers will direct traffic through the construction area. Hannegan Road, City Limits to E. Bakerview Road
Hannegan Road from the City limits to E. Bakerview Road will be reduced to one lane with flagging as, Stremler Construction crews, under contract with the City of Bellingham, works to repave the road. Expect long delays. Flaggers will direct motorists through the construction. West College Way from Highland Drive to Bill McDonald Parkway
West College Way from Highland Drive to Bill McDonald Parkway may be reduced to one lane while crews pave, depending on the weather. Motorists can expect long delays.  Flaggers will direct traffic through the lane closure. Stremler Construction crews, under contract with the City of Bellingham, will pour new concrete panels. Highland Drive from Garden Street to West College Way
Highland Drive will be reduced to one lane while crews pave from Garden Street to West College Way, depending on the weather. Flaggers will direct traffic through the lane closure. W. Bakerview Road, Bennett Drive to Dover St. night work
From 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., travelers can expect lane closures on W. Bakerview Road between Dover Street and Interstate 5 as Ram Construction, under contract with the City of Bellingham, continues work to improve arterial safety on the I-5 overpass. Travel will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Harris and McKenzie avenues, 4th and 10th streets
Travelers can expect moderate truck traffic on Harris and McKenzie avenues as well as 4th and 10th streets in Fairhaven up to Interstate 5 as construction work continues associated with the Post Point Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvements project. The City of Bellingham Public Works Department provides this information as a public service. It is based on currently available information. Motorists are reminded that weather and road conditions can change rapidly and should plan accordingly. When traveling through a construction area, drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians are asked to be patient, proceed with caution and obey flaggers at all times. Planned road closures and restrictions are necessary to allow for a variety of work including resurfacing, sidewalk construction, water and sewer main work, and utility cuts. Dates, times and work locations are subject to change due to inclement weather or last-minute changes in work schedules.
