Tyler Mitchell is the new race director for the Bellingham Traverse, taking over for Todd Elsworth, the event’s founder.
Elsworth plans to shift his focus to managing Recreation Northwest, the nonprofit organization that puts on Bellingham Traverse, along with several other regional events. Elsworth is the organization’s current executive director.
Mitchell has extensive experience in race directing, including overseeing the Lake Samish Triathlon at Camp Lutherwood and the Bellingham Jingle Bell Run & Walk 5K, among others. He also coaches high school track and junior high cross country at Mount Baker Junior High and Mount Baker High School.
Mitchell has competed in the Bellingham Traverse four times.
“I have big shoes to fill,” Mitchell said, in a news release. “The Bellingham Traverse is run very well and I want to maintain its level of professionalism and make sure everyone stays safe and has an amazing time.”
The 2013 Bellingham Traverse is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 21.
