Bocce tourney raises thousands for dispute resolution center

A team sponsored by SPIE in Bellingham took the championship of the 11th annual Bellingham Bay Bocce Tournament, which was held April 20 to support the nonprofit Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center.

The sold-out tournament grossed almost $12,000. All profits from the tournament go to the WDRC, which provides and promotes constructive and collaborative approaches to conflict through mediation, training, facilitation and community education.

Thirty-two teams from around the Pacific Northwest competed in the competition, which was run by Tom McNutt of the local business Boccemon.

A team sponsored by Smith & Just, P.S. took second place. Third and fourth places went to Vis Seafood and the Orcas Lawn Monsters.
