Border crossings into Whatcom County: Canadians stayed home in April

Southbound border traffic into Whatcom County remained low in April, as the Canadian dollar averaged 81 cents for the month.

According to data from Western Washington University’s Border Policy Research Institute, 1,077,501 passengers crossed the border into Whatcom County during the month. That’s 17 percent less than in April 2014 when 1,298,730 southbound passengers crossed the border.

That means 73,743 fewer people per day came into Whatcom County this April than last.
