Boundary Bay Brewery received an award for its philanthropy on Nov. 5, in Seattle.
Boundary Bay Brewery Owner Ed Bennett and General Manager Janet Lightner were honored at the Washington State chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals award ceremony at the Westin Seattle Hotel.
The state chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals chose Bellingham’s oldest brewery for the award because it is an example of how the business and nonprofit sectors can work together to address community needs, take better care of the environment, and sustain one another, according to a press release.
Recreation Northwest, a Bellingham nonprofit that promotes outdoor recreation, nominated Boundary Bay Brewery for the award earlier this year.
“Since our signature multi-sport race, the Bellingham Traverse, began in 2002, Ed and Janet have worked closely with me to host an event that promotes our shared ideals of building community,” Recreation Northwest Executive Director Todd Elsworth said. “We are grateful for the support they’ve given our organization, as well as so many others in Whatcom County, and we felt they were well-deserving of this honor.”
Boundary Bay Brewery’s website has a list of more than 40 local organizations that they help support.
