Brandywine Kitchen backs KulshanCLT's new pledge challenge

The downtown Bellingham restaurant Brandywine Kitchen is helping the Kulshan Community Land Trust reach its fundraising and membership goals by offering to name one of its “house” sandwiches after the nonprofit organization should it reach $10,000 in membership donations.

From Sept. 17 to Oct. 31, Brandywine Kitchen will offer pledge forms for KulshanCLT memberships in its restaurant at 1317 Commercial St. Online donations can also be made at Brandywine Kitchen’s website or at KulshanCLT’s online donation site.

“We are excited to partner with KulshanCLT to help create more affordable homeownership for our community through this membership challenge,” said Chris Sunde and Azizi Tookas of Brandywine Kitchen, in a press release. “We’re supporting an annual tradition that includes La Fiamma, Boundary Bay Brewery and Mallard Ice Cream before us, who all named a KulshanCLT ‘house’ flavor while helping KulshanCLT reach its fundraising and member goals.”

KulshanCLT, a nonprofit community-development organization, holds land in trust for permanently affordable homeownership and other community needs. It also offers financial and educational services to people of limited means.

Since 2002, the organization has partnered with 132 homebuyers to purchase homes in Whatcom County, according to KulshanCLT.

The group broke ground on its latest home-building project in Bellingham’s Birchwood neighborhood in August. It was also recently selected as this year’s sole recipient of fundraising donations from the Bellingham Traverse race.

When participants make donations of $35 or more, they will be able to submit a name for the KulshanCLT house sandwich at Brandywine Kitchen, enter their names for a $50 Brandywine Kitchen gift card drawing and join fundraising organizers for an upcoming “members only” launch party for the new sandwich.

“We are grateful to Brandywine Kitchen for partnering with us this year,” said Jill Clark, KulshanCLT’s development director. “We encourage people to stop by Brandywine Kitchen, dream up a winning ‘house’ sandwich name as you enjoy one of their many fine beers, pick up a membership form and send it in with your membership payment, or donate online via KulshanCLT’s secure site at NetworkForGood.org. Thanks to all for helping us reach our fundraising and member goals this year.”
