PLANET, a national landscape and lawn care trade association, honored Janelle Bruland with the group’s first ever Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

Bruland is CEO of Management Services Northwest, which is based in Ferndale and provides clients in Washington, Oregon and Idaho with janitorial, maintenance and landscaping services.

Bruland founded Management Services Northwest in 1995 as a janitorial company with 10 employees providing clean-up services to about 10 office buildings in Whatcom County.

In the past seven years, her company has quadrupled in size, adding more than 200 employees, according to a press release from the company.

Bruland was named the Washington State Small Business Person of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Seattle District office in 2010.
