BTC culinary students set for Jan. 14 competition

Culinary students from Bellingham Technical College will face off against students from Renton Technical College at the American Culinary Federation Washington State Chefs Association Competition, Saturday, Jan. 14 on the BTC campus.

Bellingham’s team is made up of students Immanuel Dinicola, Elizabeth Vincent, Colleen Glaser, Oleg Vetkov and Whitney Worrell.

Each team will prepare a preplanned four-course menu for a panel of judges, who will taste and critique the food. The winning school will receive an invitation to a regional competition in Reno, Nev., in March.

“Working to perfect a dish in a high-stress team setting allows students to raise their standards of culinary excellence and operation,” said culinary dean Sharon Carpenter, in a Jan. 11 press release. “Competing nationally is the perfect means for culinary students to hone their crafts by putting their skills and knowledge to the test in front of recognized judges.”
