Bellingham Technical College named Dr. Richard L. (Deacon) Meier as its vice president of student services, effective July 1.
“He has outstanding credentials and a long and impressive professional career in public education,” BTC President Thomas Eckert said. “I’m confident he will be a strong leader at BTC because he has a keen understanding of how to manage by example. Moreover, his years of experience as an administrator at recognized colleges throughout Washington will prove invaluable to the college.”
Meier began his career in higher education more than 37 years ago at Central Washington University. He held multiple positions there including adjunct instructor of psychology, assistant professor of counseling, assistant director of residence living, and co-director of student orientation.
Following his departure from Central, Meier became interim vice president for student affairs at Lewis-Clark State College in Idaho in 2000. In 2005, he accepted the position of interim dean of students/associate vice president of student life at Eastern Washington University and quickly rose to the position of dean of students/associate vice president of student life in 2006.
“I am very impressed with the BTC staff with whom I will be working,” Meier said. “They are very committed to the mission of the college and the success of its students.”
