Burner enters crowded Democratic field in 1st Congressional District race

Darcy Burner filed to run for Congress May 18, and represent Washington’s newly formed 1st Congressional District.

“Speaker Boehner has made clear threats to slash Social Security and Medicare benefits after the election,” Burner said in a press release. “I will fight tooth and nail to make sure Congress keeps its hands off of Social Security and Medicare.”

She will be running as a Democrat to fill the seat formerly held by Jay Inslee, who is campaigning for governor in 2012.

Burner enters a crowded Democratic primary in the 1st District, including candidates such as current state lawmakers Roger Goodman and Steve Hobbs, as well as former Microsoft executive Suzan DelBene.

On the Republican side, Snohomish County council member John Koster is currently unopposed.
