The city of Bellingham has placed public recycling cans in the historic Fairhaven commercial district, after success in the city’s efforts to increase recycling downtown.
Twelve blue recycling cans have been installed next to frequently used trash cans on Fairhaven sidewalks. The new recycling push is modeled on the downtown pilot program that began in 2009.
The cans are intended to be used by visitors and shoppers in the area. Empty cans, bottles, plastic drink cups and lids can be recycled in them.
