Clean Green facility increases rates, shortens season

Residents of Bellingham and Whatcom County can begin dropping off their residential yard waste at the Clean Green Transfer Facility on Saturday, March 1. But they should prepare for a disposal-fee increase in April, according to an announcement from the City of Bellingham.

The disposal fee for the public facility, located on the corner of Lakeway Drive and Woburn Street in Bellingham, will increase from $5 per load to $10 per load on April 5, according to the city.

A load is considered one pickup truck or trailer of comparable size.Trucks with an additional trailer will be charged for the additional load. Cash is required and no change is provided.

The facility will also close on Oct. 26 this year, about one month earlier than usual.

City officials said the changes are necessary to raise revenue and cut costs of the facility’s operation.

The Clean Green Transfer Facility’s season operates from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
