Walter Medlin recently opened Pacific Diabetes and Weight Loss Surgery, a Bellingham clinic specializing in medical and surgical solutions for diabetes and obesity, at 2940 Squalicum Parkway, Suite 101, across from PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center.
Medlin is a weight-loss surgery patient himself. After a life-long struggle with obesity, Medlin underwent a sleeve gastrectomy in 2008, which helped him reduce his weight from a peak of 305 pounds to 205 pounds.
Medlin, a bariatric and minimally invasive general surgeon, has been in practice for more than 10 years. Before coming to Bellingham, he directed the medical and surgical weight loss program at St. Mary’s Duluth Clinic in Duluth, Minn. Medlin has performed more than 800 weight-loss surgery procedures and helped other patients with medical weight management.
Pacific Diabetes and Weight Loss Surgery’s laparoscopic surgical services include gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, adjustable gastric banding, gastric imbrication — also known as gastric plication — and duodenal switch.
Medlin will deliver a free informational presentation followed by a question-and-answer session about weight-loss surgery at 7 p.m. May 24 at the Best Western PLUS Lakeway Inn, located at 714 Lakeway Drive.
