Each Wednesday morning in February, the Port of Bellingham’s Board of Commissioners is hosting a Coffee with a Commissioner session to let the public ask questions and voice concerns directly to their elected port official.
The meet and greet event will be held in a new location each week to encourage more people to attend. The port will provide free coffee, tea and breakfast pastries at each of the sessions, all of which will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
“Going to different parts of the community to listen to the people we represent is essential,” Commission President Michael McAuley said in a press release. “The Port of Bellingham belongs to the people of Whatcom County and we really benefit by hearing everyone’s ideas and suggestions.”
New Executive Director Charlie Sheldon will join commissioners at all of the meetings. The schedule is as follows:
• Feb. 2 at Xtreme Bean Espresso, 3706 Mount Baker Highway, Everson, with Commissioner Scott Walker.
• Feb. 9 at Babe’s Place, 2038 Main St., Ferndale, with Commissioner Jim Jorgensen.
• Feb. 16 at the Bellingham Cruise Terminal in Fairhaven, 355 Harris Ave., with Commissioner Michael McAuley.
• Feb. 23 at Bay Café at Birch Bay, 7608 Birch Bay Drive, Birch Bay, with Commissioner Michael McAuley.
Last year commissioners hosted Coffee with a Commissioner sessions in Blaine, Lynden and Bellingham. Additional sessions will be offered later in 2011.
