The Bellingham Business Journal

The Harris Square Condominiums at 10th Street and Harris Avenue in Fairhaven, has won first place in the 2009 Whatcom in Bloom Awards, Apartment/Condo Complex division. The award is sponsored annually by Whatcom County Parks and Recreation and the Bellingham Herald.

Landscape Committee Chair, Amy Electra Squires, owner of Studio 910 Salon, said the association invested in landscape improvements two years ago. Some original plants were kept while adding many perennials and spreading ground covers for long term effect and drought tolerant ground cover was planted along Harris Avenue. Alan Green of Green Thumb Landscaping installed and maintains the grounds.

“We were happy and surprised to get the award,” Squires said. “We put a lot of effort into an environmentally-friendly, attractive garden space around the buildings. It has been a pleasure watching it come to maturity.”
