The Bellingham Community Food Co-op will be donating 2 percent of its July 16 sales to Food To Bank On, a beginning farmer training program through Sustainable Connections.
Both the Co-op’s locations downtown and on Cordata Parkway will be participating in the community shopping day, which takes place the third Saturday of each month and allows shoppers to directly benefit local nonprofit groups.
The Food To Bank On project was started with the Co-op’s farm fund in 2003. A three-year program designed to give start-up farmers business and entrepreneurship skills, Food To Bank On currently has 10 successful new farmers operating in the region. The program also provides fresh produce to food banks and shelters.
