County eliminates employee furlough days for 2013

Whatcom County employees will not need to take furlough days in 2013, according to an announcement from County Executive Jack Louws.

The county has required employees handling non-essential operations to take unpaid days off for the past four years as a cost-saving measure to handle financial impacts of the economic recession. Louws said the furlough elimination resulted from discussions with county bargainers during current union negotiations.

Louws said the cost of the elimination has been analyzed and budget adjustments will be made in coordination with the County Council.
