Shall We Dance?, a new dance studio, will hold its first class Friday June 3 in the Bell Tower Studios at 1430 N. Garden St.
The business offers group dance classes every Friday and will cover all the major styles of social dance, from salsa to swing to samba, said owner and dance instructor Chuck Crooks.
The focus of the classes is to prepare people for social dances at clubs and weddings rather than competitive dancing, Crooks said. So instead of offering six-week classes for one type of dance, as most dance studios do, Crooks will focus on a new dance every week. That way, people can get the basics of the dance and feel comfortable going out dancing.
“Group classes are an easy way to learn a new dance,” he said. “I’m definitely not a competitive dancer, but I know what dancing does to people and I want to share that.”
Private classes are also available and Crooks plans to add advanced group classes for people who want to learn more about certain dances.
