The Bellingham office of the engineering firm David Evans & Associates closed this month.
Located downtown at 119 Grand Ave. Suite D, the firm employed 17 people locally last year, several of whom have opted to transfer to the company’s office in Everett, said communications director Tami Boardman.
“Our Bellingham office had primarily been working on land development projects, and we all know what happened in that market,” Boardman said. “It got to the point where it didn’t seem feasible to have a presence there when we have a strong presence in Everett and in Bellevue.”
With more than 670 employees at 21 offices nationwide, the Bellingham office is the first to succumb to the economic downturn. The local office first opened in 1990.
