Downtown tree-lighting ceremony, art walk on Dec. 6

The City of Bellingham and the Downtown Bellingham Partnership will host a holiday tree-light ceremony followed by the next monthly Downtown Art Walk on Friday, Dec. 6.

The tree-lighting starts at 5:30 p.m. at Depot Market Square. The event also includes a visit from Santa Claus, holiday carolers, refreshments and more. The Downtown Art Walk follows from 6 to 10 p.m.

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees AFSCME Local 114 coordinated donation of the tree and transportation. The tree was provided by Longview Timber, and it was transported by Brett & Arlene Engholm Trucking of Everson. Puget Sound Energy donated LED lights for the tree.

City employees will help decorate the tree with the help of a bucket truck. The Woods Coffee is providing refreshments at the tree-lighting ceremony.

Bellingham Chamber Chorale/Bellingham High School Alumni Band are performing traditional holiday carols . AFSCME 114 members are helping coordinate Santa’s visit. The Greenhouse, Little Tiger Toys and Sew and Sew also are providing support for this holiday event.

“We’re proud to support our downtown businesses and our arts and civic organizations,” Bellingham Mayor Kelli Linville said, in a news release. “We hope throughout the holiday season people will take advantage of fun, family-oriented events, unique shopping and dining, and everything else our wonderful downtown has to offer.”

After the tree-lighting ceremony, the lights will shine every night throughout the holiday season.
