Earl's Bike Shop opens in Fountain District

By Isaac Bonnell

Bellingham’s newest bike shop opened this month at 2827 Meridian St. across from Haggen.

With 700 square feet of space, Earl’s Bike Shop is a cozy addition to the burgeoning Fountain District. Owner Craig Earl said he chose the area specifically for the concentration of bike commuters along the busy thoroughfare.

“I’ve always wanted to open a little neighborhood bike shop and I thought there was a need for a bike shop in the Fountain District,” he said.

Earl offers full-service bike tune-ups for any type of bike and also sells used bikes on consignment. He ensures that each bike is tuned and in working order before putting it out on the floor and he also offers a service policy with each bike sold.

“So it’s a safer place to buy a used bike than off of Craigslist,” he said.

As a certified bike mechanic, Earl has worked for six different bike shops in the region, all of varying sizes. But he said he prefers the feel of a small bike shop and plans to keep his business that way.
