Eco-friendly home tour set for June 25-26

Do it yourselfers and anyone interested in sustainable homes can tour local environmentally friendly homes during the 9th annual Imagine This! Home & Landscape Tour, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 25-26 and will feature nine sites in and around Bellingham.

The tour will be hosted by Sustainable Connections and was organized by the nonprofit’s green building and smart growth manager, Nick Hartrich.

“Tour attendees can expect to see innovative remodels and urban landscapes that incorporate unique ideas full of flavor and attitude,” Hartrich said in a press release. “Each site has a story unto itself and is packed full useful tips, takeaways and on-site experts to help jumpstart your next green project.”

One stop on the tour is Millworks Cohousing, a new eight-unit cohousing development in Bellingham that features clay walls, reclaimed materials, hydronic radiant heating and passive solar design.

Another tour site will demonstrate energy saving tips that are saving one family $1,124 annually on heating costs.

The self-guided tour also features urban landscape examples, including a green roof on top of a post and a beam arbor built from a salvaged cotton warehouse.

Admission is $12 and includes access to all tour stops, a detailed tour map and a resource guide for products and services featured by local design enthusiasts. Tickets can be purchased at Village Books, The Community Food Co-op, RE Store, Garden Spot Nursery, Bakerview Nursery & Garden Center, and online at www.sustainableconnections.org.
