The Washington Department of Ecology is inviting public comments on new strategies to reduce the use of toxic substances.
The strategies include establishing a new state policy to prefer safer chemicals and that Washington set clear priorities for reducing toxic chemicals. Recommendations include specific actions for toxic chemical reduction, some that can be implemented right away and others that will need further study before final decisions are made.
More information can be found in a letter and white paper created by the Washington Toxics Reduction Strategies Workgroup, a group of business, government, academic and non-governmental tasked by the ecology department to develop recommendations.
The documents are available in PDF form: http://www.ecy.wa.gov/toxics/docs/trs_ToxicsPolicyReformWA.pdf.
