The Community Food Co-op is celebrating Co-op month with events throughout October.
Bellingham Mayor Kelli Linville and Whatcom County Executive Jack Louws designated October as Whatcom Co-op Month in October 2012.
Throughout the month, the service desks at both the Cordata and Downtown Co-ops will hand out and collect nomination forms for Community Cooperator and Co-op Cooperator awards.
Oct. 11, noon to 3 p.m.: Appreciation Day at the Cordata Community Food Co-op – Vendors will be on hand with samples of their products, and the Co-op will provide treats from its in-house bakery, as well as other freebies and prizes. Local blues band Blues by Two will play a free concert.
Oct. 18, noon to 3 p.m.: Appreciation Day at the Downtown Community Food Co-op – features the same events as the Cordata Co-op’s appreciation day, but with live music by Rattletrap Ruckus.
Oct. 21, 6:30 p.m.: “Food for Change: The Story of Cooperation in America,” documentary showing at the Pickford Film Center. Filmmaker Steve Alves will attend. A reception starts at 5:30 p.m., and a Q&A session follows the film. Tickets cost $10.50 for adults and $8.00 for children.
