Crews with the Washington State Department of Transportation will repave three miles of Mount Baker Highway east of Glacier this summer between Fossil Creek and Wells Creek Road—mileposts 38-41.
Work begins Tuesday, Aug. 7, and continues through mid-September. Transportation officials said travelers should expect delays of up to 30-minutes between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays.
“It’s going to take a decent amount of time to pilot traffic back and forth,” said Chris Damitio of WSDOT, in a press release. “We’re hoping the delays will be less than a half-hour. I’d recommend going before 8:30 a.m. and coming back after 6 p.m. if you want to avoid the delays.”
Crews are patching and paving the highway, as well as upgrading safety features such as striping, reflectors, markers, signs and guardrails. The transportation department awarded the project to Granite Construction of Everett, which placed a $1 million bid for the work.
