Fairhaven Pizza and Prawns is hosting its third annual Alaska Day celebration on Oct. 18 and 19.
The celebration commemorates the day the Alaska Purchase became final and the United States acquired the Territory of Alaska from the Russian Empire, on Oct. 18, 1867.
Alaska Day is legally recognized by the state of Alaska, and schools and state offices close to celebrate. Fairhaven Pizza will celebrate with a variety of Alaskan beer, prizes, Alaska spot prawns, and other food.
Tom Traibush, Fairhaven Pizza co-owner and Alaska native, travels to southeast Alaska every year to fish for Alaska spot prawns. Traibush will be delivering the first of his 2014 Fall harvest just days before the event, according to a press release.
Attending the event is free, food and drink is not.
The celebration will take place from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 18 and Sunday Oct. 19.
