Barcode Repair, a Ferndale company specializing in refurbished barcode equipment, reported dramatic growth in its second year of business.
The company, which handles repairs, annual maintenance, technical support and warranty work, saw revenue rise by 408 percent to $1.31 million in its last 12 months of business, according to owner and president Chuck Swanson. The company projects 2011 sales will surpass $2 million.
Swanson launched Barcode Repair in Bellingham in July 2009 with two employees. He moved in April 2010 to DeltaTech Industrial Park, just north of Ferndale, to accommodate growth from a strong first year.
There are now nine employees working for the company, and with revenue still rising sharply on a monthly basis, one of the biggest challenges facing Swanson is preparing for more growth.
“We now gain 15 percent of our revenue from foreign customers and see great potential in Europe, especially in the United Kingdom,” Swanson said in a press release. “Manufacturers want customers to buy their newest products and are reducing their repairs, parts and support for equipment older than two to three years. But many companies don’t need the latest models, especially since we can provide high-quality refurbished barcode equipment at a significantly lower cost.”
