Bertha Reta, owner of Colima Design on Main St. in Ferndale, will be honored at the 14th YWCA Northwest Women’s Hall of Fame dinner at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, in NorthWood Hall, 3240 Northwest Ave. in Bellingham.
Reta was chosen for successfully creating her small business after decades of garment factory work, for sharing her knowledge with apprentices and for being a leader in the Hispanic community, according to a Feb. 23 press release.
Three other Whatcom County businesswomen will also be recognized: the late Silversong Belcourt, who founded Honor Day to celebrate Native American traditions and values; Dorothy Dale, co-founder of the Whatcom Peace and Justice Center and an educator, missionary and activist on social justice, peace and women’s rights issues for 65 years; and the late Olga Marie Hawkins, a lifelong Red Cross volunteer who began her service in World War I.
Hawkins will be honored with the Legacy Award for early Whatcom County leaders who continue to inspire today’s women.
Reservations for the dinner, which cost $30, are due by March 13. They can be made by emailing email@example.com or by calling 360-734-4820.
