Bellingham’s newest bank will open Monday, Nov. 9, adding another acronym to the local banking lexicon.
First Federal’s branch at 1270 Barkley Boulevard has an ITM—an interactive teller machine. Bank customers will be able to talk to a First Federal representative at a call center in Port Angeles through the ITM’s video screen.
The branch also has bank tellers in the flesh working regular business hours, but the ITM extends the bank’s hours. The machines can provide video conferencing with a First Federal employee from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Outside of those hours, the ITM becomes a standard ATM.
“Our goal is to provide personal banking and technology with banking specialists,” said Dawna Textor, director of retail banking for First Federal, in a press release. “There’s a lot to be said for technology, but the human connection plays a very important role in all of our branches.”
The Bellingham branch is First Federal’s 10th branch. Eight of the Port Angeles-based bank’s locations are in Clallam and Jefferson counties, on the Olympic Peninsula, and one is in Kitsap County.
Troy Wills leads the new bank, which has six total employees, said Jeanine Lee, spokesperson for First Federal.
Staff from First Federal’s Bellingham loan center, at 1313 E. Maple, transitioned to the new branch.
