Former "This Old House" host helping local Habitat for Humanity

Emmy Award-winning television personality Steve Thomas, former host of the acclaimed home improvement shows “This Old House” and “Renovation Nation,” will join volunteers on a Habitat for Humanity home-building project in Bellingham, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 9.

Thomas will assist Habitat for Humanity in Whatcom County’s first energy-efficient “passive” home, under construction at 2776 W. Indiana St. in Bellingham’s Birchwood Neighborhood. The house is designed to minimize heat loss, and when hen completed, is expected to cost about $100 per year to heat, according to Habitat for Humanity.

The project is being built and funded by a coalition of local faith groups.

As a speaker, home renovator and Habitat for Humanity ambassador, Thomas advocates for greener building and renovation techniques.

On Friday, March 8, from 2 to 3 p.m. Thomas will also appear at the Whatcom County Home and Garden Show from 2-3 p.m. on Friday, March 8,  at the Northwest Washington Fairgrounds in Lynden, where he will speak about sustainable building techniques being used by Habitat for Humanity locally and across the country.

He will be available at Habitat for Humanity’s booth at the Home and Garden Show until 7 p.m. Friday, following his presentation.
