To encourage downtown shopping during the holidays, the city of Bellingham is continuing its annual Holiday Parking Program. Parking will be free at metered spaces downtown after 1 p.m. from Monday Dec. 8 until Thursday, Dec. 25.
“The city wants to support easy access to downtown businesses for shopping and eating during this holiday season,” said Mayor Kelli Linville in a press release.
Free parking won’t start until 1 p.m. to discourage employees and residents from parking all day in metered spaces.
Although parking is free after 1 p.m., drivers are asked to park responsibly by observing the time limit posted on the meter. Shoppers wishing to stay longer than two hours are encouraged to park on the ground floor of the public parking garage at 1300 Commercial St., which costs $6 for a full day. Weekend parking in the public parking garage is free.
