To encourage shoppers to visit downtown during the holidays, the City of Bellingham is launching the Holiday Parking Program. Downtown shoppers can park for free in metered spaces all day from December 13-25.
“We offered free two-hour lunch parking between Thanksgiving and Christmas in past years,” Clark Williams, transportation superintendent with public works said in a press release. “It was confusing for shoppers,” he added.
That’s why the Downtown Bellingham Partnership proposed giving shoppers more free hours for fewer days this season. Still, the city is asking drivers to observe time limits posted on meters. Shoppers wishing to stay longer can park on the ground floor of the Commercial Street parkade.
