The first annual Awareness Walk for Gastroparesis and Digestive Health takes place from noon to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, starting at the Bellingham Farmers Market at 1100 Railroad Ave., and traveling round-trip to Boulevard Park and back.
A registration booth will offer information, silent auction and T-shirts for sale from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The event will raise money and increase public awareness for gastroparesis, a disabling digestive disorder. An estimated 1.5 million Americans have been diagnosed with this condition, for which there is currently no cure.
Organizers are seeking to raise $10,000 for research into treatment options for those diagnosed with gastroparesis. All proceeds will go directly to the International Foundation for Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders, a nonprofit organization that works with legislators, funds research and supports people affected by intestinal disorders.
Corporate event sponsors include Go Macro, Advanced Medical Massage, CarrDorsch Family Dental, Hoagland Pharmacy and Roiba Gear.
